MED & dMED: precision in critical environments
Ambient air pollution can play havoc with the medical air your staff and patients need. Atlas Copco's MED/dMED systems convert compressed air into highly-purified air for all your medical applications.
The MED, four-stage filtration

The MED series ensures high quality air in worst case, but real-life pollution scenarios. The MED works with a four step filtration process:
- A WSD water separator, a DD and a PD coalescing filter remove free water and particles down to 0.01 micron and eliminate oil droplets down to 0.01 ppm.
- A heatless desiccant dryer reduces moisture content to a pressure dew point of -40°C/-40°F, removing any risk of condensation, bacteria and mold growth.
- A dual cleaning stage includes activated carbon to eliminate hydrocarbons (oil vapor and smells). A catalyst then converts CO into CO2.
- A particle PDp filter at the exit removes particles that may have been introduced in the desiccant stages down to 0.01 micron.

The dMED, seven-step filtration

The dMED (dual MED) is a duplexed purification package for converting a compressed air source into breathing quality air. You dMED package is independently certified to provide medical air in compliance with the European Pharmacopoeia.
The dMED has 7 stages of active purification:
- A water separator to remove liquid water
- A bulk aerosol filter eliminates oil and water
- A fine coalescing filter removes even smaller particles of oil and water
- A desiccant dryer takes out any remaining water and CO2
- Activated carbon removes gaseous impurities
- A catalyst takes care of a CO oxidation
- A bacteria filter eliminates bacteria and fine particles. This bacteria filter is an Atlas Copco PDp filter, which has been externally tested and certified as a bacterial filter.
Full compliance

You MED or dMEd comes pre-certified to simplify the certification process on installation. They are designed and manufactured according to:
- ISO 9001
- ISO 14001
- ISO 13485:2003 quality management system
The MED systems also meet and exceed the requirements of the most demanding standards and regulation in the medical industry, such as:
- Medical Device Directive MDD93/42/EEC
- European pharmacopoeia
- EN ISO 7396-1
- ISO 14971
- Health Technical Memorandums HTM 02-01 and HTM 2022 for medical systems
