Making a PIG fly

Cleaning
A PIG can be a simple cylindrical bung with a sponge coating or made from metal and fitted scrapers. This type is most commonly used to clean pipes to remove debris, material sediment and corrosion.

Dewatering
After hydraulic pressure testing, a PIG is employed to remove all traces of water.

Coating
A further application is to use one or more PIG units to line or coat the interior of a pipe. This calls for precise speed of operation, with compressed air acting on one side of the PIG to drive it with a counter pressure on its other side to control its progress through the pipe.
