Atlas Copco Kolfor expands the specialty rental fleet into oil and gas applications through “packaged” solutions.
Dundee, Scotland, August 27, 2009: Focusing on further expansion into the oil and gas sectors, Atlas Copco Specialty Rental has taken delivery of three Nitrogen Bundle Boxes (NBB) fromUSmanufacturer PCI. This completes the product ‘package’ for its rental fleet comprised of high pressure air compressors, nitrogen membrane units and boosters to meet nitrogen needs in onshore and offshore applications.
Atlas Copco Kolfor has enhanced its rental fleet for onshore and offshore oil and gas duties demanding nitrogen applications, with the delivery of three Nitrogen Bundle Boxes (NBB) from USA manufacturer PCI.
The investment of the three nitrogen generators is, according to Mr Horst Wasel, President, Atlas Copco Specialty Rental division, part of Atlas Copco’s strategy for increased expansion into the oil and gas sectors for its specialty rental fleet.
The use of nitrogen in both onshore and offshore pipelines is often specified in order to pressurize and close the ‘line’ to prevent oxygen incursion. This avoids corrosion and possible future explosions – by preventing ignition of flammable gases to protect oil field assets.
Packaged in a 20 ft container, the integrated installation features air pre-treatment including coalescent filters, carbon filters and particle filters, together with the NBB module producing up to 2000 scfm of nitrogen at a purity of 95 – 99%.
Pressurized air from an Atlas Copco TwinAir® or a single XRVS 476 oil-injected air compressor is applied to the membrane module at 24 bar(g). In order to ensure that the compressed air is ‘moisture’ free, an electric heater is fitted as standard to superheat the air stream, optimizing the process.
