Atlas Copco’s energy saving Z VSD compressor range completed
Antwerp, Belgium and Stockholm, Sweden – 02 May 2002 -- When Atlas Copco Compressor Technique introduced screw compressors that were powered by a Variable Speed Drive, it revolutionised the market. By saving up to 35% in energy consumption, the VSD set a new standard in environment friendly compressor operation. With the introduction of several new models the oil-free Z VSD range has now been completed to cover a range from 90 to 900 kW.
By introducing three new models - the ZR 900 VSD, ZR 500 VSD and the smaller ZR/ZT 90VSD - Atlas Copco reaffirms its lead in oil-free energy saving screw compressors. The range of oil-free VSD compressors now covers the entire range from small 90 kW to powerful 900 kW machines. Across this range, the customer benefits remain unchanged: huge energy savings, a highly stable air net pressure, low starting currents and a total absence of peaks, a high power factor and full compliance with EMC directives.
Although Atlas Copco’s innovative role in VSD type compressors has seen many followers, the Z VSD machines still excel by their totally integrated approach. Instead of adding a frequency converter to an existing compressor design, the Z VSD is designed as a complete concept, which offers numerous advantages. Firstly, Z VSD compressors are mechanically tested for the full speed window, whereas a traditional compressor is built for one working speed. Secondly, all controls for motor and compressor are integrated, which maximises the operating range and provides maximum safety. Thirdly, the integration puts the total machine under total control which reduces the risk of problems and ensures EMC compliance. Finally, it allows the floor space to be reduced significantly.
More to save
When dry air is needed, the MD dryer with VSD motor further optimises the energy saving package. By using the heat of the compressor, the MD adsorption dryer is virtually energy-less.
In multiple compressor installations, the ES Millennium monitoring and control systems will further reduce energy consumption by optimally selecting the right compressor mix, reducing the pressure band and operating the compressors in their most efficient zone.
