Atlas Copco returns to the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes

2011-09-12

Atlas Copco has been selected to be a new member of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes, which list the world’s leading sustainability-driven companies.

As of September 19, Atlas Copco AB* will be included in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index and in the Dow Jones Sustainability Europe Index. For asset managers focused on investing in sustainable companies, the indexes provide a benchmark to measure the performance of their investments.

“Atlas Copco’s commitment to sustainable productivity will support a good long-term development, financially as well as in terms of our environmental and social impact ,” says Annika Berglund, Senior Vice President Corporate Communications. “ We are very pleased to once again be included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes, confirming our profile for investors with a focus on these issues .”

Atlas Copco in February this year introduced new goals for sustainable, profitable development. These include improving the energy efficiency of customers by 20% by the year 2020, reducing the Group’s carbon dioxide emissions by 20% in the same time period, and enforcing a zero tolerance for bribery and corruption.

Atlas Copco was previously included in the Dow Jones Sustainability indexes in 2007/2008. Membership in the sustainability indexes is based on an annual assessment and comparison between industry peers. The assessment focuses on management of opportunities and risks deriving from economic, environmental and social developments. Aspects such as corporate governance and strategy are taken into account, as well as key performance indicators such as emissions and waste.
