Air Blower Solutions for Energy and Petrochemical Industry

Applications of air blowers in Energy & Petrochemical industry

The demand for products derived from petroleum and natural gas continues to grow as populations increase. And so does the demand for better air blower technology to drive the critical  process. Atlas Copco excel over others in the way that we optimize for energy efficiency. Read on to know more.

Downstream

‘Downstream’ refers to the process of refining petroleum crude oil and raw natural gas. It also includes the businesses that market and distribute the end products of this process.

Air blowers are important to the downstream sector of the oil & gas industry. Low-pressure air blowers in particular play a key role in powering petroleum refining. And they also power the processes used to convert crude oil into useful products, such as gasoline, kerosene, jet fuel, and diesel oil.

A byproduct of the downstream process is compounds that contain sulfur. Air blowers are used in two processes involving sulfur called:

  • ‘Hydrosulferization’ where most of the sulfur is converted to hydrogen sulfide for later processing into elemental sulfur.
  • ‘Thermal Oxidation’ where hydrogen sulfide gases are cleaned of impurities prior to atmospheric release.

Most of the sulfur produced worldwide is byproduct sulfur from refineries and natural-gas processing plants.

Another byproduct of the downstream process is carbon black. Carbon black is a black pellet or powder product used in plastics, paints, and inks as a color pigment. Blowers are used to create carbon black through a process called ‘Thermal Decomposition’. And blower airflow is used to carry carbon particulate and exhaust gases through quench towers and into bag filters.

Air blowers are an essential piece of machinery in the downstream sector.  Atlas Copco make Air Blowers  as well and  are designed using same basic design as compressors. And so the energy technological refinements made for air compressors translate well to air blowers as well to provide same level of reliability and energy efficiency.

Air blowers for the Energy & Petrochemical industry

Atlas Copco has more than 140 years of experience making compressed air solutions. The company’s solutions adhere to JIP33, API, ISO and end user specifications. End user’s benefit from our expertise of Oil and Gas  professionals around the world who can design products and offer solutions to meet the requirements.

Atlas Copco has a long history of partners in the Energy & Petrochemical industry. Atlas Copco air blowers are designed  with an emphasis on Energy savings and reliability.

Air blowers in the Atlas Copco product range benefit from being equipped with trademark variable speed drive technology that scales and optimizes for energy efficiency. The recent ZS / ZB series of air blowers have improved upon previous models and now save operators up to 11% more per year in energy costs. Learn more about the ZS /ZB series here,

One notable air blower in our product line is the ZM oil-free multistage centrifugal blower. It’s known for reliable operation under tough conditions or in high-risk environments. The ZM air centrifugal blower is suited for both pressure (multistage blowers) and vacuum (multistage exhausters) applications of air and gas. Learn more about it here.

Here’s a short 4-minute video that summarizes all the ways how Atlas Copco serves the Energy & Petrochemical industry today.
