Skill development program in Latur

Atlas Copco Charitable Foundation, in partnership with Gramin Shramik Pratishthan, is helping transform the lives of differently abled youth by providing skill development training followed by post-training employment and rehabilitation support.

The Story:

The deprivation of rural-based population of differently abled people is a major population plaguing the country. As per the 2011 Census, out of 2.68 crore people with disabilities, 45% are illiterate while 63.66% are unemployed. This project aims to facilitate social and economic rehabilitation and thus provide equal opportunity rights to people with disabilities. Under the project, 55 youths will be given skill development training, thus paving the path for their employment as a valued professional.

Solution:

Atlas Copco Charitable Foundation, in partnership with Gramin Shramik Pratishthan, will set up the facility at the well-developed Training Centre of GSP which is based in Latur, Maharashtra. The training will be offered with residential facilities to all. The project will enroll 55 differently abled youth, out of which 30 Visually Challenged Youth will be trained in Acupressure and Massage Therapy, and 25 Orthopedically Challenged Youth will be trained in Digital Media Content Development courses. The assessment and certification of the trainees will be done independently by the Maharashtra State Board of Vocational Education Examination, after which the trainees will be certified as professionals. The certificate is recognized all over India by all educational and statutory bodies.

Acupressure and Massage Therapy Course:

This course is being offered to Visually Challenged Youth as it is well known that the sensory skills of visually challenged people are quite sharp. Thus, they can identify acupressure points accurately. Hence there is great potential to create large scale employment for visually challenged youth by training them as therapists. The duration of this course will be one year – from August 2021 to July 2022. The course will comprise of four main subjects: Massage Therapy, Acupressure Therapy, Physiology and anatomy, and Life and Business Skills.

Digital Media Content Development Course:

This course is being offered to the Orthopedically Challenged Youth who are interested in Graphic Design and Social Media Content Development. The training program will be conducted in three batches, with each batch lasting four months and comprising 8-10 trainees. A training center will be set up where facilities like computers and media processing software will be provided, along with residential and basic needs for all the trainees. Post certification, the trainees will be eligible for employment as graphic designers and digital content developers.
