A Fast And Straight Solution - Power boost for new ROC F9 CR

The new Atlas Copco ROC F9 tophammer crawler rig was introduced at the end of last year. Now the new ROC F9 CR, equipped with the COPROD® system for the fast drilling of straight holes, makes its European premiere.

The ROC F9 surface crawlers are equipped with a powerful CAT diesel engine, and has more power and strength than any earlier rig of its size -– further strengthening Atlas Copco’s enviable reputation for advanced surface drilling technology.

Compared with the ROC F7, the CAT engine on the ROC F9 series gives 35% more power and 31% more air capacity.

Before the new rigs were built to operate on sites with high production demands, Atlas Copco consulted with hundreds of people in the drilling business at sites all over North America. And much of what the experts said is incorporated into the new design.

Standard features include:

• The 231 kW (313 hp) Caterpillar diesel engine, water cooled and turbo charged, that powers the rig’s hydraulic and air systems and gives more than enough power to drill straight and fast holes.

• An on-board Atlas Copco screw compressor, 188 l/s (400 cfm) at 12 bar (175 psi, which provides excellent air flushing and ensures clean holes that are easy to charge.

• A double drill tube support with breakout table for improved guidance when collaring the hole, which lowers the drill and blast costs and optimises the drill pattern.

• An ergonomically-designed operator’s cabin, with a low noise level, that gives excellent visibility during drilling, tramming and collaring the hole. The controls are positioned in the armrests of the operator’s chair for increased comfort and safety. The chair is fully adjustable and swings out towards the door of the cabin for easier exit and entry. The cabin is ROPS/FOPS approved.

The ROC F9 CR is equipped with the powerful COP 1800 CR series rock drill, featuring Atlas Copco’s unique double-dampening system which ensures longer drill string life and higher penetration rates.

The rock drills being used with COPROD ® can be equipped with TED (Tube Extraction Device). The device generates and transmits reverse percussion into the housing and on to the drillstring and bit. In this way, the reverse percussion automatically releases the drillstring if it gets jammed during removal.

On the CR rig, the single-section boom has been developed for quarries that place extra-high demands on productivity. Optional equipment for horizontal drilling is available – and the possibility of placing the feed horizontally also facilitates servicing of the feed and rock drill. Designed for simplicity of service and maintenance, the ROC F9 CR has easy access to all service points and components.

The rig is also designed to access the more difficult drilling locations as easily as possible. Its maximum tramming speed is 3.6 km/h (2.2 mph), hill climbing ability is 20°, track oscillation is +/-10° and ground clearance is 410 mm.

The highly successful ROC series of surface crawler rigs have gained a worldwide reputation for increased power and performance – and the ROC F9 CR is designed to continue this trend.
