Diesel engines

Diesel engines are no longer part of Atlas Copco’s product offering, but in the earliest years the company introduced important innovations in this field.

  • 1901: Design of the first completely Swedish diesel engine. This small diesel engine had a light weight compared to power output and low fuel consumption. The engine is considered to be one of the basic contributions to the development of diesel technology.
  • 1906: Development of a diesel engine with reverse gear that was especially suitable as large scale ship engines.
