Atlas Copco launches new 30 and 25 bar compressors for heavy-duty drilling

Atlas Copco is launching two new high-pressure, high-volume air compressors: the XRXS 566 (XRXS 1206) for 30 bar (435 psi) operation and the XRVS 606 (XRVS 1256) for 25 bar (365 psi) operation. These units have been specifically designed to meet the ever increasing demands of the drilling industry for efficient production, more drilled meters, faster penetration and higher profitability.

As a general rule, drilling at higher volume increases drilling rates, resulting in greater hole depths. Free air delivery (FAD) is needed for the hammer as well as for effective cuttings removal. The XRXS 566 (XRXS 1206) is capable of producing 34 m³/min (1200 cfm), whilst the XRVS 606 (XRVS 1256) is capable of producing 35.4 m³/min (1250 cfm) of high pressure air.
In the XRXS 566 (XRXS 1206) and the XRVS 606 (XRVS 1256), Atlas Copco has developed a new generation of high-pressure compressors that combines drilling efficiency, component reliability and operating safety specifically designed for the down-the-hole drilling market.
Tests on granitic subsoil have shown that the XRVS 606 (XRVS 1256) ensures a penetration rate of 0.8m/min (2.62ft/min), whilst the XRXS 566 (XRXS 1206) is capable of a penetration rate 20% higher at 1 m/min (3.28ft/min). Both of these new compressors provide a marked increase on the performance of competitor compressors, which equates to sustainable profitability for the owners.

Portable Air Division

Portable Air is a division within Atlas Copco’s Compressor Technique business area. It develops, manufactures and markets portable oil-injected and oil-free air compressors, and generators for prime or standby power worldwide, under several brands, to the construction and general industries. The division also serves customers in selected geographic markets and industry segments with temporary air and power rental solutions. The divisional headquarters and main production center are located in Antwerp, Belgium.
