GA315 VSD-FF compressors integrate frequency converter and dryer


Antwerp, Belgium and Stockholm, Sweden – 29, April 2002 -- Atlas Copco Compressor Technique introduces the new oil-injected GA315 VSD-FF screw compressor with built-in refrigeration dryer and Variable Speed Drive technology. The resulting overall package efficiency is unsurpassed.

Based on close interaction with the customer, Atlas Copco developed the new GA315 VSD-FF to closely meet every user demand, and introduced several novelties in the process.

The new GA compressor element, based on a longer active rotor length, allows larger air volumes to be compressed with a higher built-in pressure ratio. The resulting efficiency improvement of the element, combined with a scrupulous reduction of even the smallest losses, sets a new record for overall package performance.

The GA315 VSD-FF compressor is governed by the latest edition of the proven Elektronikon® system, which monitors and controls all parameters in the most cost effective manner. The monitoring system displays a concise overview of the compressor's operation and allows to pre-plan maintenance for minimum downtime. Internet integration and a central control unit for multiple compressor installations are possible with the new Elektronikon®.

Standard options
By incorporating all vital components and options into one compact enclosure, Atlas Copco engineers succeeded in improving reliability while saving on valuable floor space. A refrigerant dryer and integrated filter, oil/water separator and energy recovery are all fitted in the same canopy. Even a moisture separator is mounted as standard, which avoids pressure losses that are typically induced when fitted as an optional component.

Unmatched energy savings
Variable Speed Drive technology is omnipresent in the GA315 VSD-FF. The speed of the main drive motor is continuously adapted to precisely match the air output to the air demand, without the typical load/unload switching. This results in energy savings of up to 35%, which is – over the typical life cycle of a compressor – more significant than the initial investment cost.
The integrated dryer compressor is VSD controlled as well, generating up to 25% in additional savings when compared to a fixed speed refrigerant dryer. And, in the air cooled version, the VSD fan motors bring down the overall energy cost even more.

Design optimisation
The overall cooling air management has been redesigned. To ensure a sufficient air supply even in unfavourable surroundings, the air is sucked in from both sides of the compressor. The outgoing air flows upwards to avoid a temperature build-up inside the canopy and to ensure an optimal heat distribution.
