A Balanced Approach to Grinding - Reductions in vibration levels to below 2,5m/s2 for unrestricted use in a working day

A joint project with SKF, the Swedish bearing company, has enabled Atlas Copco to bring four low vibration Angle Grinders to the market. By using a well established principle in an innovative way, vibration levels have been cut by more than half. Typically the weighted acceleration for Angle grinders is in the region of 6 to 7m/s2. Now,with the compact Auto-Balancer grinders , atlas copco has reduced vibration levels to less than half, in fact to under 2,5m/s2.

Inside the Auto-Balancer, a number of steel balls bathed in oil move freely within the casing. The balls automatically shift their position to re-adjust the centre of gravity, thereby counteracting any imbalance in the grinding disc. The balancer is mounted just above the disc and also serves as a centering guide to the disc.

According to the CE Directive (89392/EEC and 91/368/EEC) manufacturers must declare vibration levels if more than 2,5 m/s2.
ISO 5349 is the standard for measurement and assessment of human exposure to transmitted virbration. The RECOMMENDATION from the standard states that tools with vibration levels up to 2,5m/s2 have unrestricted use in a working day without an increased risk of vibration related injury.
The development of these tools also comes from the close relationship that Atlas Copco has with its end users in seeing their need of grinding for long periods, as in ship yards, foundries, profile grinding etc.
The new series of grinders include two models at 125 mm, one at 180 mmand a two- hand-model at 230 mm.
The AGV 1200-125X has a 1200 watt motor and also has the Atlas Copco FIXTEC system that allows the disc to be changed quickly without the need of any other tools.
Similar in size but with a more powerful 1500 watt motor and constant power electronics the AGV 1500-125 XC also has the FIXTEC system.
Still in the compact class of grinders comes the AGV 1500-180 XC, again a 1500 watt model but with a larger 180 mm grinding disc. This model is especially suitable for cutting applications due to its exceptional cutting depth of 58 mm. It also features FIXTEC and constant power electronics.
Completing the range , this time in the larger class of grinders comes the WSAV 2300, a 230 mm grinder with 2300 watt motor power.

-To support these new products Atlas Copco has a full range of accessories suited to achieving the best possible results.
