Semi-submersible vessel deballasting

Deballasting, emptying the ship's ballast tanks, requires low-pressure, oil-free air. For this purpose, Atlas Copco has developed the 100% oil-free ZS low pressure blowers with working pressures from 300 mBar to 1000mBar.

The adjustable, low pressures avoid the ballast tanks being overpressured and damaged, while the oil-free operation of the ZS safeguards clean air. These ZS blowers have already been successfully installed in several submersible applications. Even semi-submersible heavy lift cargo vessels, semi-submersible platforms and crane vessels for the offshore market operate with these low-pressure blowers.

A ZS low-pressure blower is good sollution when compared to the maintenance required ballast pumps:

  • Even in case of human errors, the oil-free compressed air prevents environmental pollution.
  • The ZS blowers come in ranges of 284 m³/h untill 4345 m³/h at a power rating of 37-125 kW, outperforming conventional ballast pumps with regard to efficiency en deballasting time.
  • An Atlas Copco blower requires little maintenance compared to ballast pumps. Therefore, you enjoy the lowest Cost of Ownership, which is one example of Atlas Copco’s way of sustainability.

All units are outfitted with Atlas Copco’s controllers and starter methods from star-delta up to the highly efficient Variable Speed Drives (VSD).
