New Atlas Copco QAC1000 containerised generating set offers standby power rating of 1000 kVA in a compact, reliable and easily transportable package.

Atlas Copco has introduced a new containerised generating set that delivers 900 kVA of prime power and provides a standby rating of 1000 kVA.

The QAC1000 is a heavy-duty unit, designed to cope with the rigours of the rental market and construction site applications. A sound power level well below EC requirements makes it ideal for night time applications in residential areas.

The set operates at either 50 Hz or 60 Hz, driven by a 32-litre turbocharged DCC 16 V - 2000 Series engine. It meets all existing emission regulations and complies with EPA regulations in 60Hz mode.

With two electronic engine management modules to control the 895 kW engine, fuel consumption ranges from 58.4 l/hr at 25% loading to 201.3 l/hr at full load. Standard features include a stainless steel silencer, triple fuel pre-filter with water separator and 7.5 kW remote controlled electric motor with fan. An automatic oil make-up system with a 50l oil tank is available as an option. The engine and Mecc-Alte alternator occupy most of the 20-foot ISO container.

In another section is the cooling compartment, housing a 25 kW radiator with electric motor fan, twin intercooler and fuel cooler and 1500 l fuel tank. The twin-walled tank holds sufficient fuel for 10 hours continuous operation at 75% load. Quick-fit coupling valves allow for connection to an external fuel tank where necessary, and an automatic fuel transfer pump is also supplied as standard.

The control panel compartment houses the remote start and control module, lighting switches, a fault diagnostic port for the engine management modules, four-pole motorised circuit breaker and adjustable earth leakage relay. From here, users can easily check the status of electrical and mechanical components. Control options include an automatic start module, auto-sync paralleling system and new generation control panels.

The entire package weighs in at 16t.

Servicability is another important feature of the QAC1000. Wide doors on the container provide excellent access to the service points. Heat shields and carefully positioned guards on rotating equipment help to minimise service times and costs by allowing technicians to begin work without having to wait for the engine to cool.
