Precision And Power - World premiere at Steinexpo 99 for the ROC L7 CR

The latest member of Atlas Copco’s new Power Generation family makes its world premiere appearance at the Steinexpo 99 exhibition in Germany. Accurate and powerful, the ROC L7 CR has a COP 4050ME-CR rockdrill for fast and straight drilling of holes up to 165 mm, powered by a CAT 3176 ATAAC engine.

The exhibition, from June 9 to 15, is expected to attract 50,000 visitors to a limestone quarry in Wülfrath, near Düsseldorf, where highlights include demonstrations of drill rigs and other equipment in action.

The new ROC L7 series is Atlas Copco’s largest tophammer rig. It is equipped with the patented COPROD® drilling system – offering high productivity and straight holes to optimise the drilling pattern and therefore lower drilling and explosive costs.

Suitable for use in pre-splitting and production work in quarries, open pit mines and construction work sites, the state-of-the-art ROC L7 series is equipped with an XAH 4 onboard screw compressor with a FAD of 2281/s for excellent flushing, ensuring clean and easy-to-charge holes.

The rig is fitted with Atlas Copco’s most powerful rockdrill, the COP 4050ME-CR. The rock drill provides fast and straight drilling of holes ranging from 105 to 165 mm. The rockdrill has an impact power of 30 kW (40 HP), an impact frequency of 40-60 Hz and a working pressure of 190 bar (2,755 psi).

The COP 4050ME-CR is equipped with Atlas Copco’s latest double reflex damper, acting as a combined hydraulic damper and spring to break the reflex shock waves gently and quickly – making it possible to exploit the full power range of the rockdrill without excessive loading.

It can drill with three different COPROD units to achieve varying hole-size ranges. The CR 89 drills holes from 105 to 127 mm, the CR 102 from 115-140 mm, and the CR 127 from 140-165 mm.

With the CR 127, the rig can achieve a maximum drilling depth of 24 metres. A maximum drilling depth of 30 metres is possible when the L7 series is equipped with either the CR 89 or the CR 102.

Pre-splitting and production work is easily carried out by one rig because of the ROC LR7’s
drilling capability, which is enhanced by having a feed swing of +/- 30° sideways and 40° forward, a boom swing of 20° left and 25° right and track oscillation of -8°/+10°.

The L7 series is equipped with a powerful CAT 3176 ATAAC, 272 kW (369 HP) engine that delivers ample power for the toughest jobs with reliability and low fuel costs. The engine is water-cooled, turbo-charged, after-cooled and offers a large power reserve.

The rig has a roomy and spacious ROPS/FOPS approved cabin that is rubber-dampened and mounted directly to the chassis to minimise vibration. In addition, to offer a perfect and comfortable view during collaring and drilling, the cabin has a six-way adjustable operator’s seat with drilling controls in the armrests.

Accurate positioning

The cabin has a low noise level and has generously-dimensioned windows for excellent all- round view. It is also fitted with a Hole Inclination and Depth Control Instrument to minimise deviation and allows the operator to drill with fast and accurate positioning and total control of drilling depth.

Another important feature is the rig’s accessibility to all service points and major components. The L7 series rigs are weather-protected and all hydraulic hoses and electrical cables are marked at both ends.

Optional equipment available includes a hydraulic support leg for more stable drilling, and a water-mist system for hole stabilisation. An electric fuelling pump, a central lubrication system, an engine pre-heater and a service winch are also available upon request.
