Atlas Copco Wagner Introduces "Millenium Truck" to the World at MINExpo International 2000 in Las Vegas

(Portland, Oregon USA) - Dubbed the “Millennium Truck” by a major mining industry publication, Atlas Copco Wagner’s 20-tonne MT2000 is the underground mine truck for the 21st century. Atlas Copco Wagner introduced the vehicle to the world at MINExpo International 2000 in Las Vegas, Nevada, October 9-12. Previously, the vehicle won praise during a preview showing at this year’s early summer, Elko Mining Expo, in Elko, Nevada, USA.

“The MT2000 is an exceptionally maneuverable truck that delivers high power and high performance in a compact package,” said Brian Mayers, small truck product manager for Atlas Copco Wagner Inc. “Its exceptional performance on grade allows the MT2000 to cover more ground in less time—even at high altitudes.” Mayers said, “We’re really excited about this truck, and the customers seem to be too, as we have just received an order for 6 of the MT2000 for the Chinese Non-Ferrous/Zambian Chambisi Mine, located near Kitwe, Zambia.”

The MT2000 offers even greater power and capacity than one of its predecessors, the MT-420. The MT2000 carries a full 20-tonne payload, yet has more power and a tighter turning radius than a similar Wagner vehicle, the 18-tonne capacity MT-420. The clean burning, self-tuning Detroit Diesel Series 50 engine delivers 224 kW of power (300 hp) for impressive speed on grade. A loaded MT2000 can travel 12 kilometers per hour (7 mph) on a 10 percent grade and 26 kph (16 mph) on level ground. Its 42.5-degree turn angle allows it to operate and make a 90-degree turn in a 4.2-meter drift. “The MT2000 has a lot more horsepower and a drivetrain that can take it,” said Mayers.

Additionally, the MT2000 is a reliable performing unit. A built-in diagnostic system and easily accessible hydraulic components and electrical panels reduce downtime when servicing. The MT2000’s electronically controlled engine is self-tuning and provides protection against overheating and low oil pressure. The articulated hinge with heavy duty tapered roller bearings absorbs stress and provides long life with no adjustments.

The MT2000 also features upgrades in comfort and safety. A totally redesigned ergonomic operator’s compartment provides extra leg and shoulder room and better visibility. Monostick steering is simple to use and reduces operator fatigue. Optional automatic shifting is available to further enhance the ease of operation. The cabin and canopy meet MSHA requirements and provide back and overhead protection for the operator.

Of course, the MT2000 comes equipped with proven components that have been used successfully for many years in Atlas Copco Wagner products. Wagner's patented Spring Applied Hydraulic Released (SAHR®) brakes are standard, and need little or no adjustment during their first 10,000 hours of operation. The durable Rock Tough® 457 axles have a 4,000-hour warranty: that’s the best in the underground mining industry. Wagner is the only LHD and mine truck manufacturer with such a written warranty.

“These features equate to lower operating costs and increased productivity,” Mayers said. “The smaller MT-420 model and this MT2000 have caught on very well with our customers as we’ve received orders recently from customers in India, Zambia, South Africa, and Peru.

Product specification brochures in English and Spanish for the MT2000 can be obtained by writing the company, or contacting an Atlas Copco Sales Company, or one of Wagner’s independent dealers or distributors.
