Monitoring of your Air System: Make Sure Heat is Not an Issue

July 31, 2024

Monitor your compressed air equipment and prevent the effects of heat from damaging it. The heat season has begun, and there are many effects within the air system that we can prevent now.

The heat is starting to be felt so you can start preventing overheating situations in your compressed air system.

The Importance of Maintenance

Oil Free screw machine service kit with service technician

Just like cars, which require periodic maintenance, so does your equipment inside the compressor room.

Many times we begin to react when it begins to generate more condensate, we have temperature alerts, saturation in filters, moisture in your air network, among other effects that can cause heat.

Remember also that not only air compressors are affected by high temperatures, but also air dryers need care and maintenance, line filters , water/oil separators , among other elements.

Moisture in your air network can have detrimental effects on your equipment and piping, such as:

  • Pipe corrosion
  • Pressure drop
  • Permanent damage to internal equipment elements
  • Damage to instrumentation
  • Damage to your process or final product
  • Unexpected production downtime

Tips for Heat

  • Constantly check the drains, as the temperature increases the amount of condensate also increases, so it is important to verify that these are not going to be saturated.
  • Verify that the ventilation in your compressor room is indicated, if it has ducts, make sure they work properly and are clean, if they do not have ducts, that there are vents that meet the needs of your equipment and maintain the minimum recommended space between your equipment, without obstructing their ventilation.
  • Check that the coolers are not saturated and circulate the air properly because otherwise this can cause high temperatures or overheating of the equipment.
  • Check the oil level of your equipment, the heat can also affect the viscosity of the oil and as it functions as a cooler in your compressor, it is important that it is in good condition. Lack of lubrication can cause severe damage to your equipment such as the clamping of the compression element, overheating of your equipment and damage to internal components.
  • In your air dryers, it is necessary to make at least twice a year maintenance, check that their refrigerant gas is good.

SMARTLINK Enters the Game

Using genuine Atlas Copco parts also helps in the efficiency and durability of the equipment, each part is designed to provide the profitability that your equipment needs and thus take care of your investment.

Remember that the greatest prevention comes from the supervision and continuous control of your compressors, dryers and other air treatment equipment. Therefore, remote monitoring is a very effective way to keep you up to date on the status of your machinery.

Using the SMARTLINK Remote Monitoring System , you can check your compressed air equipment from your tablet, cell phone or computer, activate customized alerts, download performance reports, check your latest services, find parts lists, among other benefits.

Checking the oil levels and the state of your radiator, will be critical in preparing your air compressors for the most challenging conditions they will face throughout the year. And what better way to do it than from wherever you are and whenever you want.

FAQ

Do SMARTLINK licenses cost a fee?

There are three types of SMARTLINK licenses:

1.      SMARTLINK Service: is free for all customers, You can check your service needs and documents, as well as event histories.

2.      SMARTLINK Uptime: this type of license already has a cost, but it provides greater recommendations and warnings, alerts and monitoring of the status of your equipment.

3.      SMARTLINK Energy : another type of license with cost, which allows you to analyze and optimize your energy efficiency, comply with ISO standards, have easy access to reports and performance.

How do I know when my compressor needs maintenance?

Identify the signs, such as loud or strange noises, excess humidity or increase or loss of pressure, it is best to have a service plan, to keep your equipment in optimal working condition.
