When fastening critical joints, you need the most accurate assembly tools and solutions at your disposal. The same is true for applications such as fastening hydraulic hoses on construction vehicles, an application that one of our customers faced accessibility and quality issues while working on. Read on to discover how experts came to their rescue and provided them with the most optimal solution for their assembly needs.
But first, our customer’s dilemma
Every manufacturer has a unique set of challenges and assembly needs, and this customer was no different. They struggled with limited accessibility, poor accuracy in critical joints, no data collection, and a lack of operator guidance. This led to an increase in rework-related costs and downtime.
Both wrenches have great ergonomics and error-proofing features, making them prime options for our customer’s application. Our experts conducted a product demonstration using both tools and tested them on our customer’s prototype build, exposing them to the differences in features and functionality.
Meet Atlas Copco’s unique solution
The STRwrench stood out against our MWR Mechatronic wrench because it provides users with error-proofing features including barcode selection and end fitting TAG recognition.
The entire solution comprised of the STRwrench connected to a Power Focus controller and SQS. Together, these solutions would work in harmony. First, SQS would control the tool. Using a barcode scanner, the correct tightening program would be selected and sent to the STRwrench.
Due to the accessibility issues in this application, we provided our customer with custom sockets and open-end wrench heads. These wrench inserts are also RFID tagged, ensuring that the correct insert is installed on the tool during production.
Thanks to our solution, our customer saw significant cost savings and increased uptime due to a reduction in failed joints. Moreover, with the improved error-proofing features this ensemble provided, they were also able to improve their production quality.
