Customized rental compressors for Saipem offshore project

Antwerp, Belgium – March 3, 2015: Atlas Copco Rental Italy provides oil and gas industry contractor Saipem with one year’s worth of specially custom-made equipment for their offshore facilities.

When Saipem started with the first line construction of a gas pipeline project going from Russia to Bulgaria, they needed not only expert service but also customized material, and so they contacted our team in Italy. Saipem had already designed the installation they wanted for the entire project. With this done, it was time for them to start constructing the first line, as well as the shallow water parts, shore crossings, landfall and associated facilities for four pipelines, making good use of their two mighty vessels: the ‘Saipem 7000’ and the ‘Castoro Sei’. However before the construction and placement could start, the pipelines needed to be sandblasted. This was not an easy task due to the special type of installation required: on a barge, meaning that all of the commissioning equipment had to be custom-made containerized. That is when Saipem contacted us and we stepped in with a perfectly tailored solution.

Local customs definitely did not make this project any easier, but the project was firmly grasped by our Italian Sales department and Belgian logistics team. Both teams joined forces and managed to provide Saipem with a one year supply order of two 100% oil-free air PTS 1600 compressors together with CD dryers and accessories. The commissioning itself is managed by two of our Rental offshore Service Engineers who collaborate to ensure complete customer satisfaction.

Saipem asked us to propose a solution for sandblasting using special equipment that had to be offshore certified. They made this request as an alternative to purchasing the units themselves. It is clear that our strong focus in offshore business allowed us to immediately offer what the customer really needed: DNV certified containers and accessories.
