How does an Energy Storage System work

Atlas Copco’s ZenergiZe range is a good example of how the high-density li-ion batteries can be leveraged to enable a new level of sustainability, flexibility, and usability, without compromising on power. Due to their modular structure, they are an ideal solution for small businesses requiring a versatile power management, as well large applications with multiple units, where they can revolutionize fleet efficiency.

The different operating modes of energy storage systems allow these machines to serve as a primary power source in island mode. Alternatively, they can be combined with a generator to enable intelligent load management, giving operators with demanding applications peace of mind that any peak demand can be effectively addressed.

If you are wondering what is an energy storage system, we have the answers you are looking for. It is an efficient way of capturing, storing and servicing energy. But, how does it work?

With a footprint of just 1.4m2, the ZenergiZe units are 70 percent smaller and lighter in weight than traditional standalone power generators, which means that they can be transported without any specialist equipment. Despite their compact size, they pack a punch: a ZenergiZe unit can provide over 12 hours of energy with a single charge, and the charging time is only 1.5 hours.

The ZenergiZe solutions, which are the ultimate energy storage system technology, have a working life of over 40,000 hours. This translates to more than 5000 cycles, or over 1,600 days of continuous operation, although this figure is useful for illustration purposes only, as battery energy storage systems are primarily used as a temporary system. This contributes to a very low total cost of ownership, and the system typically pays itself back in under two years.
