East Coast Customer Day – Your Green Journey Starts Here

When sustainability becomes part of a brand’s culture, it becomes a point of differentiation, a core value, and it has a large impact on customer perception.

Atlas Copco has set two science-based targets to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions in line with climate science. 

There are clear business benefits. Playing a leading role in the transformation to a low-carbon society gives, Atlas Copco a competitive advantage to develop and deliver even more energy-saving solutions for our customers. 

And to sustainability efforts more tangible, it is crucial to create awareness internally as well as externally. As part of the green activities, Atlas Copco Malaysia organized the East Coast Customer Day on 9th March 2023 at Zenith Hotel Kuantan, Malaysia.

The customer day aims to cultivate a green mindset and envision our impact as a ripple effect that will continue beyond the Green Journey project. 

Going green is the smart way to do business. Not just because our customers demand it, and governments mandate it but also because we can save big by switching to smart technology when compressing air.

This was an exciting event for Atlas Copco Malaysia as it is the first time such a customer day has been organized in Malaysia after the Covid-19 lockdown.

It was great to see so many customers from all over the East Coast region of Malaysia at this industry event! In all, more than a hundred customers from industries like petrochemical, electronics, biochemical, cement, oil & gas, food & beverage, etc attended the event. The event also serves as a great platform to have a chance to talk with so many of them about their businesses and how we can help them achieve our common sustainable goal which is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Khalid Shaikh, General Manager – Compressor Technique for Atlas Copco Malaysia & Singapore also joins the successful event. He expressed his appreciation to customers for dedicating their time and willingness to spend one full day with the Atlas Copco Malaysia team to start their green journey together. “The world is changing, and we have a lot of issues with climate. It is proven without a doubt that is happening because of human activities. As human beings and companies that are responsible, it is our job to do whatever is possible from our side. So, the theme for the whole event is going green. Reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions will be the goal for this event”.

Khalid also spoke on the science-based targets with a goal set by the Atlas Copco Group to cut CO2 emissions by 28% under scope 3 by 2030. 

“Scope 3 involves upstream activities that involve our suppliers and downstream use of the products that we sell to our customers. Without getting our customers/users to cut emissions Atlas Copco will not be able to reach this SBT on emissions”. 

“As a company, we have decided to log in at every opportunity that will record the data for energy consumption. For instance, if PETRONAS decided to collaborate with Atlas Copco in cutting energy consumption, we will come to audit surface systems, and we will log in all the information. Let’s say a particular plant from PETRONAS had 1000kW of energy consumption compressors and with optimization, we will be able to cut by 35% and then we will go and record these data as saved energy/emissions. Now, we can see real values on how much we are helping our customers to cut emissions” he explained. 

The Malaysia team prepared several green topics and presented them to customers. There were a total of 8 stations and customers were divided into groups so all of them had the opportunity to participate in every session. At end of every presentation, there was a Kahoot session, where customers can answer and grab some exciting prizes.

Topics presented include Mastering Performance Optimization, Air Quality Significance, Turndown & Fluctuation, Maximizing Efficiency & Reliability, Green: N2/O₂, Compact Packaged Solutions, Innovative Solutions, and Continuous Availability. 

Customers also had a first-hand look at the latest developments and innovations of Atlas Copco’s products and services. This enables the Malaysia team to explain and provide a platform for customers to clear any doubts about the machines' performance and reliability.
