Automotive company saves €58 000 annually thanks to Optimizer 4.0
A leading company in the automotive industry reached out to Atlas Copco to connect their separate air nets and investigate the possibility of remote monitoring.
The Challenge
The customer has 10 compressors spread across multiple compressor rooms.
As the facility’s infrastructure consisted of two unconnected air nets and various controllers without central control, the customer did not have an overview nor insight into the energy KPIs. In addition, the pressure band was set wider than necessary.
The Solution
The Atlas Copco team went on site and saw opportunities to connect the two separate air nets with an Optimizer 4.0 Central Controller as master controller.
The Optimizer 4.0 connects both air nets, including compressors and dryers, via CAN/Ethernet and ensures a stable pressure within a narrow bandwidth. In addition, the controller continuously selects the optimal mix of machines, reducing the energy consumption and CO₂ emissions.
- With the integrated SMARTVIEW option, the customer has continuous insights into the energy consumption of all the connected machines. This shows how much (in %) a unit contributes based on the running hours. Above that, the customer can use a weekly overview of its energy KPIs for ESG reporting.
The Outcome
The Optimizer 4.0 improved the system's pressure stability, leading to annual energy savings of 290 000 kWh and a cost reduction of €58 000 a year. This way, the payback time for the investment is approximately one year. Above that, the customer achieves a CO2 reduction of 122 tons per year.
