Top Tip: 5 steps you could take to increase your compressor's lifespan

Tired of the maintenance downtime of your industrial air compressors? Do not worry, we have you covered. For businesses like yours, it might be a huge investment and you are always looking for ways to maximize the returns. No matter how well-built your compressor is, someday it will be worn out. Here are some useful insights to increase the lifespan of your industrial air compressors so you can get the maximum benefits out of it:

Look out for the working pressure! The power consumption of industrial air compressors is directly related to its working pressure. The working pressure of a compressor might drop because of a damaged internal pipe system or a clogged filter. Increasing the working pressure in response to a pressure drop is a very common mistake that not only consumes more power but also increases the damage. Hence, it is always recommended to check for such faults rather than just increasing the working pressure of the compressor.

Use a central control system - A central control system is a regulation system that helps in controlling and monitoring the activity of industrial air compressors. Such systems are cost-effective and come in handy when the operational setting of the compressor needs to be changed now and then. These control systems help in decreasing the system pressure on the compressor. You can save a lot of energy by using central control systems. These systems save your compressors from breaking down and increase their availability for industrial operations.

Cleaning the air -The air consumed by your industrial air compressor should not be contaminated with any dust particles or smoke. The air inlet, usually placed in the sound-reducing enclosure of the compressor, should be adjusted accordingly so that the air that goes in the compressor is fresh. The air intake should be cold and should be through a pipe having enough diameter to ensure a low pressure. The use of a pre-filter is also recommended to ensure that the air going into the compressor is of high quality and free of any contaminations.

The room’s ventilation - Industrial air compressors produce a lot of heat during their operations. They get likely heated up beyond their optimum operating temperature. Hence, the air compressor should be placed in a room with a proper ventilation system to dispose of the additional heat. The size and the cooling mechanism (air or water) of the compressor should be kept in mind while finalizing the ventilation system of the room. The excess heat in the room should be recovered and reused for energy savings. Ensuring that no dust or harmful air particles enter the compressor room from the ventilating system is essential for increasing their life span. This can be done by avoiding the use of long air ducts and placing them as low as possible.

CTS service enquirey

Get your compressor serviced - Do not forget to call in for a service of your compressors regularly. Getting your compressor serviced is always better than getting it repaired. Servicing early reduces the leaks in the airflow by an average of 19% for all compressors. You get to save on maintenance costs by servicing early which makes about 7% of the initial capital cost of the compressor. Moreover, it helps you increase the work efficiency of your air compressors. So, what are you waiting for? Give us a call at Atlas Copco Pakistan and let us take care of your industrial air compressor.
