Rita Chong
Meet Rita Chong, Sales and Marketing (AII)
Rita went to Jurong for the first time in 1981. She worked as a temporary employee in the Logistics department for 3 months. She was offered a permanent position in Logistics, but she declined. She later took a job in Sales & Marketing, where she needed to learn each product in every Business Area, and this is where her true journey began.
What sort of duties do you have at work?
“My job includes liaising with Airpower (also now with Wuxi) for certification, attending to leads, inquiries and eventually to orders, repeat orders, and assisting customers. They were so happy when I recognized their voice. Documentation for quotations, tenders, etc. was done manually from beginning to completion. The greatest achievement that we did was the sale of 51 units of MA3GD compressor for MINDEF. I really enjoyed working here”.
Who do you look up to within the company?
“I have fond memories of working with different MDs, in particular, Ray Lofgren. Working for him was an amazing experience. I remembered he asked me to use my smile muscle because he noticed that I seldom smile. He encouraged and empowered me to be better and progress forward. He included me in a specific task and he always knew how to give appreciation”.
What is your favorite memory?
“One of my best memories was being chosen for a week for the Study and Contact Trip to Airpower in 2004. It was a fantastic trip with very good exposure to the Factory. We had an Interactive Session with Paul Van Reeth on Certifications, Approvals & Customer Contact. I visited the Wuxi factory for Sales & Product Training together with the ACM & ACS sales team in April 2019. These were some of the good learning experiences for me”.
Can you share with us one of your favorite leisure activities?
"I sometimes work late at times to attend to urgent work. And after office hours and on non-working days, I do tai chi and gardening on my own vegetable with my mum".
Rita also believes that customers are extremely important, and she agrees with our GMs that they pay our salaries. So it is truly her commitment to assist our customers whenever they inquire or make a request.
