STOP & Re-start your air compressor with easy steps to do and still save your energy when you need to reduce your production. Checked our guideline you will see the easy way to support your production.

How to stop your air compressor during the low production volumes. Those steps ensure your air compressor when it needs to stop in a long period of time.

General Recommendation: If your production is slow down or completely stop your production. You can easily stop your air compressor manually even it is integrating with the central controller. In the case that you don’t do it and let your air compressor still runs in minimal operation. It might be used compressed air to compensate for a small leak in your compressed air network. For example, it will have condensate in the GA compressor.

VSD Compressors:

Switch on the program stop but make sure that your electrical power supply still on. Because you need to be ready to restart the air compressor. This way helps you save the capacitor charged and ready to restart. 

Water-cooled air compressor:

After you switch off your air compressor, you need to make sure that you separate the water supply turn off to avoid the condensate forming in the compressor elements(s). Don’t forget to turn it back on when starting up the process.

Atlas Copco Z Compressor

Z compressor needs special treatment, they need the main drive shaft for manual rotated by the motor drive coupling, which remains 3 complete rotations once a week. To protect the swing of low pressure and high pressure at compression stages from seizing up during a long period of downtime.

In a specific way for the VSD compressor of the Z Atlas Copco model, you can’t forget to turn the power supply on after switching the compressor over by hand. This effective way to remain and protect the inverter drive capacitors. 

Centrifugal Compressor or ZH compressor

You can set stopped programmed and leave the power supply remain. This compressor needs to have the auxiliary oil pump turn on once a week for 10 minutes while the compressor is stopped.

This action to remain oil temperature and periodically start up the auxiliary oil pump. The warm oil needs to circulate around the bearing during the shutdown period for a long time. 

Dryers (adsorption or refrigerant) and gas generator

That equipment can be stopped manually and depressurized if required. For gas generators during depressurizing, the oxygen can be high that you need to keep the monitor in the machine room. 

Starting up after long periods of shutdown

Don’t turn the equipment back immediately, you need to visual inspection before turning all equipment back to operations.

First, turn off the power supply to the air compressor, then removed the driveshaft protection guard and the drive coupling. You need to complete check that the compressor is free to turn. Re-fit the guard and turn on the power supply to the air compressor; turn on the cooling water (for the water-cooled compressor).

Open the compressor air discharge valve slowly till the pressure equalizes between the compressor and the air net. After, you start the compressor means your compressor is back online. Please make sure that your sequence controller is connected. if they are integrated with the controller/optimizer.

For adsorption dryer and gas generator

DO NOT start up against an empty air net. If you start to turn off the outlet valve behind the dryer or generator and pressurize the system. Then open the outlet valve slowly to pressurize the air net. This process avoids the high airspeeds damaging the adsorption material.
