EV Battery manufacturer saves €60 000 annually thanks to Extender+
A local manufacturer of batteries for electric vehicles used an operator on site to manually operate the dryers and valves, which was not only inefficient but also posed a safety risk. Therefore the customer contacted Atlas Copco.
The Challenge
The customer has two separate compressor rooms with a total of seven compressors and six dryers. The dryers operated continuously, regardless of the actual load of the compressors. As a result, the drying cycles ran nonstop, leading to unnecessary heating, blowing and purging.
The Solution
The Atlas Copco team went on site to identify the hidden energy-saving potential. Although the customer had already achieved annual energy savings of 15% thanks to an Optimizer 4.0, there was still considerable potential for improvement in the drying process.
The Extender+ has a Smart Backup function that automatically switches over in case of a shutdown or drop in dew point. This ensures that the dryers continue to operate stably and with optimum protection.
With the Extender+, the energy control is improved, leading to significant savings in both energy consumption and CO2 emissions.
The Extender+ eliminates the need for manual operation on the high-level valves, increasing the reliability and safety of the process.
The Outcome
Thanks to the new installation, the use of the dryers has shifted from time-controlled to demand-driven operation. In addition, capacity is now automatically regulated based on current compressed air consumption, and the dew point control settings have been optimized. Together, this results in energy savings of more than 80%.
