Atlas Copco to introduce latest revolutions in blower and dewatering technology at The Pump Centre 2018
At the 2018 Pump Centre Conference and Exhibition, which takes place in Telford on 3rd May, Atlas Copco will share details about the forthcoming launch of a game-changing rotary screw low pressure blower concept that has the potential to revolutionise the UK water and wastewater treatment industry. In addition, the company will demonstrate its latest innovations in dewatering pump technology; including both electric submersible pumps and diesel-driven centrifugal machines.

The new blower technology is based on a space-saving, vertical layout design that has proved popular since being introduced in air compressors in 2013. They will incorporate a patented interior permanent magnet motor (iPM) and intelligent Atlas Copco manufactured inverter, and are set to offer significant operational efficiency savings to companies that still rely on traditional lobe style blowers or recently introduced blade-type compressors.
The new technology builds on the success of Atlas Copco’s existing ZS blower range, which in recent years has helped several leading companies, including Anglian Water
and Northumbrian Water
, to enhance the efficiency of their operations.
Another company that recently benefited is Severn Trent Water
, who chose to install reliable and energy efficient ZS oil-free rotary screw blowers from Atlas Copco at six of its water treatment plants in the UK. The ZS blower units comprise a complete, fully integrated package based on a simple internal principle: precision timing gears maintain minute clearances between two intermeshing dry screw elements that never touch. No lubrication is required in the compression space and special seals stop any rotor bearing oil from entering the compression chamber. Intake air is compressed between the rotors and their housing and 100 per cent oil-free, pulsation-free air is delivered at an output rate of up to 3325 m3
/h dependent upon process demand.
Atlas Copco will also showcase its dewatering pump technologies, including a highly-efficient PAS pump. The PAS range was recently expanded to include 18 new models and is suitable for multiple applications, from dewatering on construction and mining sites to sewage and silt handling, drainage and even emergency situations involving flooding and shipping. The modular design of the PAS range allows many different configurations and comes in 4”, 6”, 8” and 12” models. All pumps in the diesel dewatering range feature a patented hinged door that provides fast access to the impeller and wear plates. This innovation makes issues previously related to on-site service and unclogging a thing of the past.
Recent additions to the Atlas Copco family of submersible dewatering pumps will also be shown. In particular, the company will highlight its WEDA+ range that recently underwent a top-to-toe design overhaul, resulting in several innovative new pumps that offer up to 20 per cent overall reduction in power consumption compared to previous models; combined with greater efficiency, simplified maintenance and increased capacity.
