What is a hybrid power application?
A hybrid application in the field of power generation is generally considered to be a power solution involving a sustainable product, such as a Battery Energy Storage System(BESS) and a fossil fuel powered source, such as a diesel generator. With a generator and a BESS working in harmony the power supply is more stable and efficient. This efficiency is gained by ensuring that whenever the generator is being run, it is being run at an optimal and efficient point to maximize fuel efficiency. The BESS stores excess energy to provide power during periods of low loads, which heavily reduces the running hours, maintenance frequency, and general wear and tear on the generator.
Components of a Hybrid Application
There are no limits to the components involved in a hybrid power solution. At the most basic level, the system involves an Energy Storage System and an ICE powered generator. As the power needs change, so does the application. Our BESS allow easy scalability and integration of new components as needed. With the option to integrate components such as the grid power and our solar arrays, the system can be perfectly tailored to your specific use case. The addition of more sustainable solutions, such as solar and wind power will only further decrease the operational cost, as fuel and service costs will be further reduced.
Benefits of Hybrid Applications
Benefits of Hybrid Applications are numerous, with both financial and environmental incentives to choose them over standalone solutions. Hybrid applications can severely decrease the operational cost by decreasing both maintenance and fuel cost. In certain use cases fuel consumption and emissions have been reduced up to 90%(avoiding the average load for the generator being below 30%). Reduction of generator running hours by up to 80% leads to severely decreased maintenance cost.
To further increase operational efficiency, savings in the maintenance and overhaul cost can be reduced by up to 50%. The time between service intervals also increases, which makes hybrid applications perfectly suitable for remote applications, such as the telecommunication industry. You can further decrease the TCO thanks to a reduction in generator running hours of up to 80% thanks to the increased efficiency of hybrid applications.
The improved efficiency also decreases the risk of wet stacking issues caused by the generator running on low loads for extended periods of time. Additionally, the lifetime of the generator can be extended up to 10 years and beyond if utilized as part of a hybrid power solution. This ensures a higher ROI on any generators in your fleet as it can be utilized for longer periods of time.
