VSD stands for “variable speed drive” and it is Atlas Copco’s ground-breaking alternative to traditional fixed speed compressors. While those cannot accommodate any fluctuations in compressed air demand, compressors with VSD+ are able to closely match air requirements by automatically adjusting motor speed. The result: instant savings of 50% on average.
Granted, purchasing a large compressor is an important initial investment. However, over the lifetime of such a unit, its purchase price is just a small part of the overall expenditure. Most of a compressor’s cost is energy-related. Because of its energy savings, reliability and high quality, the overall cost of ownership of a GA 75-110 VSD+ is extremely low. These savings will accumulate even faster when energy prices go up again.
These are not mere predictions. The technology is a proven winner in the field. Atlas Copco first introduced VSD+ for its smaller compressors in 2013. Since then, customers have embraced the technology – and not just because of the big savings.

It is this special design that ensures an extremely small footprint. The advantages are apparent: compressors are often placed in confined environments. A unit that takes up less of this precious space is enormously beneficial. It allows workers more room to maneuver, and facilitates installation and service access.
Not that the new GA 75-110 VSD+ requires a lot of upkeep. It has fewer components than typical compressors, which means less maintenance and more uptime. Befitting Atlas Copco as a technology leader, the components the compressor does have are innovative and of the highest quality. They include an Interior Permanent Magnet (iPM) motor, a new compressor element, an innovative inverter, and a fully integrated dryer.
The GA 75-110 VSD+ comes as standard with the Elektronikon® Graphic operating system. It controls the main drive motor and regulates system pressure within a predefined and narrow pressure band to maximize energy efficiency. The Elektronikon® also allows users to create two different system pressure bands to reduce energy use during fluctuating demand. Its Fan Saver Cycle reduces energy consumption by switching off the fan in light load applications.
The GA 75-110 VSD+ also optionally comes with a remote monitoring system that allows you to optimize your compressed air system and provides a complete insight in your compressed air network. In addition, it anticipates potential problems and provides warnings before they arise.
In part because of these and other features, the compressor’s Free Air Delivery is increased by up to 6% and it produces high quality air that safeguards production reliability and quality.
