Taking place in Cologne, a history-packed city in the west of Germany, week-long celebrations ensured June 2024 would stay long in the memory.
Part of Atlas Copco Gas and Process since 2003, Energas today serves various markets, from hydrocarbons and air separation to power generation and new energy, plus emerging markets. Products include integrally geared centrifugal turbocompressors, turboexpanders and Companders, plus oil-free gas screw compressors for the LNG market, for example. Energas produces these machines in Cologne at our dedicated facility that covers 66,000 m2.
The celebrations kicked off on 20 June at home in our Energas production facility on the annual Day of Businesses (Tag der Unternehmen). Hosted by the regional metal manufacturing and electronics businesses employer association, it included various shop floor tours and speeches, such as by Daniel Springmann, Energas general manager, Dr Margarete Haase, the chairwoman of Köln Metall, and Henriette Reker, Cologne’s mayor.
Another event that week was Technology Night, an evening in which small and large local companies alike open their doors to visitors who are interested in gaining an insight into their products, operations and working cultures. Well organised, it was as simple as hopping on a bus and being transported from one company to another, which of course included Atlas Copco Gas and Process’ Energas. The Energas team showed guests the journey from raw material to 60-ton turbomachine and a presentation on 3D immersion technologies. They also explained to younger guests about vocational training opportunities.
The highlight and culmination of the entire week, however, took place at the city’s 11.5-hectare garden complex, Flora and Botanical Garden. Around 900 guests arrived on 22 June to this inspiring location for a huge party to celebrate Energas’ 40th anniversary with a dinner and speeches, followed by a DJ and live music. It was a memorable occasion, and it reflected the warmth that people clearly have when talking about their own history working at Energas.
Indeed, personal stories and memories were central to the 40th anniversary. And to mark them, we created a video journey of people’s reminiscences. Whether these memories span four decades or four years, it is such people that make companies, and Energas owes its success today to the spirit and commitment of all those people.
