DuPont and Atlas Copco Rental team up for polymer production in Singapore

Antwerp, Belgium, November 12, 2015: When DuPont Singapore searched the market for oil-free compressed air in order to safeguard their polymer production, they chose to partner up with Atlas Copco Rental not only because of the fleet offering but certainly also for the resourceful and qualified engineers and technicians.

DuPont Singapore is part of the US based chemical company DuPont, founded over 200 years ago. The company produces innovative materials such as Kevlar to serve markets as diverse as agriculture, nutrition, electronics and communications, safety and protection, home and construction, transportation and apparel. DuPont has two engineering sites in Singapore for the production of polymers and used to take utilities with two other large companies, offering the three of them a number of advantages, including the provision of compressed air, delivered by one of those two partners. When the possibility to share utilities ended, DuPont had to look for its own compressed air since a steady supply is crucial to its production.

The first step we had to take after DuPont first contacted us was a thorough site visit in order to fully understand the requirements ... We evaluated the flow rate, pressure, available space and tie in points; we also discussed safety parameters with their operation and safety teams before we could prepare a detailed offer.

We proposed to install 4 mobile oil-free compressors PTS 916, 3 desiccant dryers and 2 air receivers combined with a fuel system in order to guarantee a smooth 24/7 operation. Because of our ability to size up the air flow and pressure when needed and the expertise of our technicians, DuPont decided to work with us.

The tricky part was to install the equipment without exceeding a downtime of 2 minutes. So we synchronized the plant header pressure with our PTS 916 and put 2 compressors on full load while the 2 others were on standby. The standby units served as back-up during periodic oil changes and were regularly switched on with the working units in order to maintain the required 2400 cfm of oil-free dry air at 8 bar around the clock.

Once the installation was completed DuPont was pleased to see that our total solution provided not only 100% of the air they needed, but also the technical support they would otherwise have to provide.

This is one more perfect example of the total solution concept we provide to each of our customers. We do not only deliver the compressed air at Atlas Copco Rental, we think along with our customers and ensure the entire set up we propose is trouble free so they can remain focused on their own activity.
