Superior Ergonomics, Increased Operator Safety: Atlas Copco Articulated Arms

Little is more important in manufacturing than operator ergonomics. This element is the key to unlocking other important manufacturing elements, such as product quality, productivity, lower operational costs, and more.

Quite often, operators working with pneumatic or DC electric handheld tools are performing repetitive, daily tasks that can exhaust operators or even cause injury over time, no matter how light the tool being used is.

Torque tubes and articulated arms from Atlas Copco take this issue head on and go even further. The widely varied products that make up our Torque Tubes and Articulated Arms catalog include floor-mounted articulated arms, smaller table-top torque arms, reaction suspension systems, and more. The products within this catalog optimize workstations completely; they counter-balance the mounted tool, decreasing exerted operator effort during production. You can also count on a boost in productivity, build quality, and operator satisfaction.

Floor-mounted and table-top articulated arms

Atlas Copco’s robust variety of articulated arms react the torque generated by a tool, eliminating impact on the operator. Further, they assist operators in lifting tools, providing stability for tool positioning. Available in multiple sizes and torque ranges, articulated arms are invaluable to manufacturing.

Within the Atlas Copco articulated arm catalog, we have floor mounted articulated arms, ideal for cramped, compact workbench or conveyor type applications. The AX1 arm, despite its robust size, is lightweight and comfortable to handle. The AX1 can reach a maximum torque of 150 Nm. For higher torque requirements, the AXF articulated arm can reach up to 2,000 Nm in torque capacity and it can be used to support single or multi-spindle nutrunners.

The smaller, table-top torque arm options, such as the SML/SMS T-Series positioning arms or the SML MK II torque arms, are perfect for a variety of applications. The SML/SMS T-Series are linear/radial arms that provide unmatched smoothness during operation. They can reach a maximum torque of 100 Nm. For a larger torque range, check out the SML MK II torque arm. With a torque range of 10-1,000 Nm, they increase productivity and reduce muscular stress in operators. They come with an integrated balancer to account for their larger size.

Reaction suspension systems

The Atlas Copco torque arm catalog also includes a few different fixtured suspension systems that react the torque generated by the attached tool. Within this tool category we have the HTS Hand Tool Suspension, the FTS Fixtured Tool Suspension, the SMC carbon torque tubes, and the AXR articulated arm.

HTS was designed specifically for hand tool applications and it reaches a maximum torque of 250 Nm. FTS is a fixtured suspension system that allows for a substantial boost in flexibility in applications of all types. With a maximum torque of 1,000 Nm, this fixtured workstation solution is the entire package. The SMC carbon tubes have a telescopic design for maximum workplace flexibility. Able to reach a torque of 300 Nm, these carbon tubes are lightweight and ensure smooth movements during operation. Finally, the AXR articulated arm is an inverted configuration for overhead rail mounting. The AXR reaches 370 Nm and offers low handling forces, a boost in productivity, and more.
