Powerbit drill tests - Sedenak, State of Johor, Malaysia

June 20, 2016

Saroma Engineering Sdn Bhd was incorporated in 1977. The company started as a sub-contractor and crushing plant operator for quarries and the construction industry. Since then, Saroma Engineering has grown into quarrying and dam building throughout Malaysia.
Today, Saroma Engineering owns three quarries and operates 14 drill rigs, 8 of which are Atlas Copco rigs. The company also has a very good track record in rock blasting for hydroelectric dam projects and is involved in the majority of dams built in Malaysia.

Powerbit testing took place at the company’s Sedenak quarry in hard, medium abrasive igneous rock. The rock is crushed and the aggregate forms the raw material to make high grade concrete used for ground pillars for scyscrapers. The straight skirt 89 mm T45 Powerbits with spherical buttons performed better than expected when compared to the reference bits. On average, the service life of the Powerbits were 10% better, and the penetration rate was improved by 7%. Normal grinding intervals at the Sedenak quarry is two holes (34 meters). With Powerbit this was increased to three holes (51 meters).

Mr. Hooi Siew Hong, Plant & Purchasing Manager at Saroma Engineering says that Powerbit is far superior than their previous bits. The new bits offer more drill meters and straighter holes.
