Hybrid Generators

Experience superior operational efficiency thanks to diesel and battery technology within the same durable hybrid power solution

Why choose Atlas Copco hybrid generators

Atlas Copco hybrid generators combine a diesel generator with a mobile battery energy storage system within the same compact unit. The hybrid power solution provides access to reliable power while simultaneously lowering fuel consumption, emissions and operational noise.

Our ECOController™ acts as the brains of the operation by automatically prioritizing the most efficient power source to power the load. This leads to superior operational efficiency as the batteries are used as the main power source and the engine only gets engaged as needed.

The smart power management system allows a hybrid generator to cover peak loads and avoids the low-load problems of oversized standalone generators.

Find the right hybrid generator for you: choose between our integrated QHS hybrid generators, a true plug and play hybrid power solution equipped with a sound dampening canopy, and our modular EPH hybrid generators, a flexible hybrid system that is equipped with a durable crash frame.

What is a hybrid generator?

A hybrid generator pairs a diesel engine with battery technology for optimized operational efficiency. With the battery being able to handle the peak loads, the diesel engine is only engaged as needed. Atlas Copco’s hybrid generators are equipped with smart power management software which engages the generator to first provide power to the load and simultaneously recharge the batteries with any surplus energy. This keeps the engine running at its most efficient load and avoids low load issues such as wet stacking.

Why choose a hybrid generator over a standalone diesel generator?

While standalone diesel generators have their place in the portable power landscape, there are many applications that hybrid generators are better suited for. In many applications a standalone generator runs inefficiently, as they are often sized for peak demand rather than the average load. This can lead to low load issues, such as wet stacking, higher fuel consumption and increased service cost. A hybrid generator on the other hand can run on batteries alone for the peak load and will only engage the generator as needed. Especially during noise sensitive operations, such as powering jobsite trailers or events the hybrid generator can rely solely on the battery and reduce the generator runtime significantly.

Frequently Asked Questions - FAQs

What is a hybrid generator and how does it work?

A hybrid generator combines a diesel generator with a battery energy storage system and intelligent power management. The battery supplies power during low or variable demand, while the diesel engine only engages as needed. Atlas Copco’s intelligent energy management software, the ECOController™ automatically selects the most efficient power source, helping reduce fuel consumption, emissions, maintenance cost and engine runtime.

How much fuel can a hybrid generator save?

Atlas Copco QHS integrated hybrid generators save up to 80% fuel compared with conventional diesel generators thanks to reduced generator runtime and reduced fuel consumption. The lower generator running hours also decrease maintenance cost and service interruptions thanks to decreased wear on internal components.

How do hybrid generators reduce CO₂ emissions and maintenance?

Hybrid generators reduce CO₂ emissions by limiting diesel engine operating hours and making sure the engine runs within a more efficient load range. Depending on the model and application, Atlas Copco’s hybrid generators can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 80% in comparison with a standalone diesel generator. Reduced engine runtime can also lower wear, extend service intervals and decrease maintenance requirements.

Can a hybrid generator provide quiet power at night?

Yes, a hybrid generator can supply loads from its batteries without continuously running the diesel engine. This significantly reduces noise pollution during low-demand periods, making the hybrid power solution suitable for overnight construction work, events, residential areas and other noise-sensitive applications.

Are Atlas Copco hybrid generators suitable for rental fleets?

Yes, both ranges are designed to support rental operations. The QHS integrated hybrid generator offers an all-in-one canopy, one-click operation, multiple socket options, external fuel connections and FleetLink telemetry for remote monitoring and diagnostics. The EPH modular range combines a generator and energy storage system in a portable crash frame, providing flexible connections and configuration options for  different applications.
