January 27, 2015

The adventure of the Paris-Dakar rally began back in 1977 and since then it remains a unique event sparked by the spirit of adventure, open to all riders and carrying a message of friendship between all men. Over almost thirty years, the Dakar rally generated innumerable sporting and human stories. Still today the motto of the Rally’s founder:

A challenge for those who go. A dream for those who stay behind.

Thierry Sabine , French motorcycle racer
For its 2015 edition, and for the sixth time in its history, the Dakar offered its competitors a loop-shaped course. The drivers and teams had to cover more than 9,000 kilometers through Argentina (Buenos Aires to set off and return to), Bolivia and Chile. Conditions are not only harsh for the cars, trucks and motorbikes… the men also need a good rest each night after the races.

The group in charge of setting up the camps knows that well and therefore they do their best to make the camps as comfortable as can be. The 5 lighting towers rented from Atlas Copco were a fundamental contribution to light up the camp used by the competitors for 2 rest days on the route from Iquique to Calama, on January 13th and 14th. Coworkers of the Specialty Rental Division provided technical service support at the site.

We are very proud that we have contributed to this worldwide renowned rally with our equipment, we look forward to join again the next years with even more solutions from our wide equipment portfolio!

Valeria Corral , Regional Rental manager at Atlas Copco Chilena S.A.C.
