This project is aimed at creating a scientific understanding for mechanical governors used in pneumatic tools.
In our pneumatic tools for Metal Fabrication, mechanical governors are utilized to control the airflow, thereby both control the RPM of the tool and optimize their performance. Different designs are used in both vane motors and turbine motors. The speeds are very high, up to around 65 000 RPM. Since the RPM of the tool is a critical safety issue, it is of great importance that this design is durable and delivers the same RPM over time.
Today the designs are based on experience and verification through thorough testing.
1. Collect data on the current designs and create a model for how the governors work.
2. Develop a design tool that can be used as an aid in the development and verification of governors for new pneumatic engines and tool.
