This year, Conor McHugh took on an summer marketing internship with Atlas Copco Ireland, finishing up last week. We spoke to him to hear about his experiences!
I came across the job opportunity to undertake a 3 month marketing internship at Atlas Copco Ireland on the DCU careers website. In May I was coming off the back of an 11 month internship at a local company, and I wanted to experience something new for the summer.
'I didn’t just want any job, I wanted to apply for a position where I could see it benefitting my growth personally and professionally. After reading the job description and doing independent research about the history of the company and what they do, I knew it was something I wanted to pursue.
I learned more than I could have expected, given that it was only a summer position. I study marketing, innovation and technology in college so I definitely learned many new skills which will help me going forward. I like how involved I felt in the construction of plans and the implementation of ideas. Just a few of the areas which I really enjoyed working on included lead generation, content creation, website editing, and developing marketing plans.
'I also learned and enhanced many of my cross transferrable skills throughout my tenure at the company. Regular interaction with the sales and service engineers was a nice part of the job, and made for an inclusive environment when it came to generating ideas. Meetings with colleagues in different countries was also a highlight for me, and I learned how it felt to work as part of an international company. Overall, I really enjoyed my whole experience!
I learned that Atlas Copco are a company with the interests of the customer in mind all of the time when it comes to the products and service they provide. There is a constant drive for innovation, and to keep improving on previous standards set before. The applications for the products are endless, and the results generated for people all over the world is something I got to see first-hand.
