'We produce what we need when we need it' - Atlas Copco nitrogen skid helps Four Dee take control of their N2!

Why buy nitrogen when you can generate and store your own? Atlas Copco nitrogen generation offers the sustainable and cost-efficient alternative to pre-filled cylinders or liquid supply.

Four Dee NI Ltd. is a steel fabrications company which was founded in 1995 by four Donnelly brothers. It is based in Magherafelt and has continued to grow over 25 years. As part of 2019 expansion plans, they decided to implement an Atlas Copco high-pressure nitrogen (HPN2) skid application on site in Magherafelt.

CTS Sales Engineer Paul Houston and Industrial Gas Specialist Matthew Havlin visited Project Manager Alan Donnelly on site this week to see how they were getting on!

Four Dee Project

Laser cutting has become an integral part of our business we are using the latest technology lasers supplied by Bystronic. We have invested heavily over the years in our machinery and are now running 5 lasers in total.

It has increased throughput we are cutting a lot of mild steel and the quality is very good. Inflated gas prices were the deciding factor in purchase, nitrogen control & production speed increases are the main benefit. We estimate the payback within two years!

Nitrogen has become a key utility for Four Dee. Running 5 lasers, our operational cost was increasing year on year. We had recently purchased the 10kw Fibre laser and we were after reliability and if possible, to reduce our costs. We are extremely pleased with the skid, we especially like the fact that we are in control of our own deliveries, we produce what we need when we need it.

After a few visits to site establishing the nature of Four Dee's business and the way in which they use Nitrogen, I suggested that there would be an advantage to moving all lasers to N2 cutting and there would be a significant saving. We delivered the N2 Skid with the best in class GA VSD+ compressor and booster pack complete. This has eliminated the need for bulk delivery’s providing a comprehensive saving to the business. I have to say it was a pleasure dealing with the team at 4D. Special note of thanks to Sean Larkin at Bystronic for providing key information on the lasers which helped specify the correct nitrogen skid!
