Atlas Copco Power Technique Appoints new Business Line Manager for APE Division
Atlas Copco Power Technique are excited to welcome Darren Carter, our new APE Business Line Manager for the UK & Ireland to the team. We caught up with Darren to find out more about him and his new role.
Congratulations on the new role Darren. Can you tell us a bit about your background?
I have a long experience with Atlas Copco. I was hired in 2001 a Sales Engineer with CTO based out of the Dublin office. I had quite a diverse portfolio of products to sell back then, including Portable Compressors, Air Tools, Kango Electric Tools and CP. This is where I learned my trade, dealing with Plant Hire, Dealers, Utilities and Drillers.
From there I moved over to Atlas Copco Underground Division (later to become Epiroc) where I was responsible for the UK & Ireland Mines and Tunnel Construction Business. In 2012 this brought me to the Underground Division HQ in Orebro, Sweden. I enjoyed eight years there in various roles, as Regional Business Manager, Product Line Manager and Product Portfolio Manager. Working in the Division gave me the opportunity to travel the world, meeting customers, colleagues and our Production sites. In 2020, I moved back to the CC world, leading the team of Epiroc Mongolia until recently.
Do you think your previous roles have helped with the Business Line Manager role?
I absolutely do believe that. Having both Customer Centre and Divisional perspective is a great benefit for me. I have a very rounded view of all the various needs of our Customers, R&D, Production Planning, Finance and Colleagues when making business decisions.
What are you most looking forward to in your new role?
Meeting new (and some old) colleagues and customers in UK & Ireland. APE has moved on a lot in the last few years and have more exciting products to come, so I think it’s a great time to help position ourselves as the market frontrunner in low carbon, safe and sustainable equipment.
How will you approach these first few months?
I like to work in a structured way, so my first months is about studying the current market conditions, understanding how I can support my team to achieve success, making a plan and executing to close the gaps. We have tough business targets to meet, but I have no doubts we can achieve them.
And finally, Darren, what do you like doing outside of work in your spare time?
I like the Countryside, so I plan to get out as much as possible and explore different areas at the weekends. I’ve owned and restored a few vintage Volkswagens back in the day, so I’m partial to a Classic Car Show. Last, but not least, I’m a big Leinster Rugby & Ireland Rugby fan.
