Atlas Copco Rental maintains production process going during plant maintenance at Papeles Cordillera in Santiago, Chile

15 грудня 2017

Boom, Belgium, November 10, 2017: When Papeles Cordillera needed to undergo major plant maintenance requiring their blowers to stop operating, they called onto Atlas Copco Rental expertise to come up with the right solution. Waste water treatment cannot afford any stoppage to comply with the strict regulations in place against water pollution.

Papeles Cordillera S.A. is a company within the CMPC Group; one of the leading Latin American companies in the production and sale of forestry, pulp, paper and tissue products. It trades around 320 thousand tons per year from a various range of papers.

Maintaining water treatment process during maintenance

Papeles Cordillera knew that power supply stoppages would be necessary during maintenance: their blowers would also have to come to a full stop. To continue production the company needed to keep up with the treatment of their waste water. For this process continuous oxygenation of the industrial water within a defined range is necessary so that the purification process can be completed before water is returned to the river.

Air to keep micro-organisms alive

Micro-organisms are used to purify industrial water during its treatment. Air is needed to keep those alive: that’s when Atlas Copco Rental came into the picture with 4 x PTS 916 100% oil-free mobile air compressors together with hose kits. The PTS’s were set on an output pressure of 4 Bar, providing a total flow of 6,400 cfm or 10,870 m³/hr, which represents 60% of the total air required for a good aerated water quality and to regulate the load for the micro-organisms.

The proper equipment and technical expertise: a winning combination!

The complete installation was carried out by our technical staff: they ensured all connections complied with the safety measures in place at the Effluent plant. Several tests have been carried out to ensure optimal continuity with a proper pool aeration for the micro-organisms. After completion of the project we issued a full report on our equipment performance. “Without air the micro-organisms treating the water would die. No plant can operate if their waste water treatment solution stops.” explains Andrés Morales, Effluent Plant Supervisor. “Working with Atlas Copco Rental has been very smooth. They know our requirements and understand our specific processes. It really made a difference to directly talk to the sales person and define our needs. Equipment arrived on time and we have not had any issues. From the technical point of view, the Rental service technicians are excellent.”
