Atlas Copco Rotary vacuum pumps are designed for easy maintenance. In this article we will walk you through the service for oil and filter replacement for the GVS 220A Single Stage Oil Sealed Rotary pump.


For this specific service you will need:

- GVS 220A Minor Maintenance Kit (SK9606M)

- Oil Filter GVS 220 Left Thread (3490790102)

-  Bypass Plug Left Thread V220B (G6541596)

Before beginning vacuum pump service

Before beginning service on your vacuum pump remember to switch off the power supply to the pump system. Once turned off, leave the pump to cool to a safe temperature. This usually takes around 1 hour.

Check out the step by step process below demonstrated in the video. 

DISASSEMBLY

Part One: Oil and Filter Exchange Disassembly

  1. First, remove both the oil filter plug and the oil drain plug.
  2. Next, drain the oil.
  3. Using a strap wrench, remove the oil filter and pour the oil from the filter into a tray.
  4. Clean out the excess oil.
  5. Now unscrew the bolts and disassemble the exhaust flange.
  6. The filter can now be removed. To do so, move it upwards and downwards to unlock it.
  7. Finally, using a syringe, remove the remaining oil from the casing.

ASSEMBLY

Part One: Oil and Filter Exchange Assembly

  1. First apply vacuum grease to the filter and insert the filter.
  2. Now apply vacuum grease to the O-ring.
  3. Next, the exhahust flange can be assembled by tightening the bolts.
  4. Apply oil to the oil filter and insert it.
  5. Apply vacuum grease to the O-ring and assemble the oil drain plug.
  6. Now fill the oil to about 7 to 7.5 liters.
  7. Lastly, the oil filler plug can be reassembled. 

This completes the service for the GVS 220 A. make sure to dispose of any broken parts, or unusable oil responsibly as per your local regulations, and to store your tools in a safe place for the next vacuum service.
