Maximizing your pump efficiency is just a choice away

Optimize your vacuum pump performance with our premium vacuum pump oil.

Atlas Copco Blue Oil Drop

Our vacuum pump oil is specially formulated from premium base stocks for the highest purity level. They are specially developed to ensure excellent, safe, and reliable vacuum performance. This is due to their low vapor pressure, flat viscosity change over temperature, excellent surface protection and prevention of deposits, dispelling water and foreign products. They also do not emulsify or create foam, have resistance to thermal decomposition and mechanical stress, and some even have food-grade qualifications.

The right vacuum oil selection has lots of benefits.

Whether a rotary vane vacuum pump, a screw vacuum pump, or liquid ring vacuum pump; selecting the correct vacuum pump oil is vital. It affects the pump life cycle, part wear, vacuum pump efficiency, and energy usage. Making the right choice is key to optimal system performance and cost-effectiveness.

Why choose  Atlas Copco vacuum pump oil and fluids?

Reduce service costs

Go longer between change periods. Our oil are less aggressive on pump components, protect against unwanted deposits and rust and corrosion, overall extending the lifetime of your vacuum pump.

Safe for your pump system

Made with non-hazardous ingredients, so there are no concerns with complex documentation and strict disposal requirements.

Energy efficient

Help reduce energy consumption with stable oil behavior and operation.

Atlas Copco vacuum pump oil types

We divide our premium pump oil into three different categories: PAO oil, Mineral oil and Ester oil, each of which have their own best applications.

PAO Oil

Mineral Oil

Polyalphaolefin oil, or PAO oil, stands out as a synthetic hydrocarbon with a paraffin-like nature and a consistent molecular structure. Its distinct advantage lies in its great thermal and chemical resistance as compared to traditional mineral oil. This makes PAO oil an excellent choice for applications where good performance in temperature fluctuations and exposure to various chemicals is essential.

Important to know: these oils have flowing properties when cold, meaning they are especially effective at low temperatures, have good elastomer compatibility, and resistance against hydrolysis.

Vacuum Fluid Permium Vac

Vacuum Fluid Premium Vac
Original lubricant for your Atlas Copco screw vacuum pump Vacuum Fluid Premium Vac is a lubricant with the most advanced PAO/POE synthetic compounds available. Ideal for mild conditions, Atlas Copco Fluid PREMIUM VAC can withstand harsh atmospheres with longer life and better resistance to sludge and varnish formation.

Vacuum Fluid ULTRA VAC

Vacuum Fluid ULTRA VAC
It works in harmony with Atlas Copco vacuum pumps to optimize overall performance, maintain the pump profile and reduce overall operating costs. With it’s unique additive packed, it helps avoid breakdowns and creates more reliable operating conditions for your vacuum pumps.

Mineral Oil

Mineral Oil

Mineral oil has excellent compatibility with elastomers and impressive resistance to hydrolysis. Hydrocracked oil, sometimes referred to as semi-synthetic pump oil, is manufactured under high hydrogen pressure and elevated temperatures, containing notably reduced levels of aromatic compounds and olefins.

Important to know: this oil has higher thermal stability compared to conventional mineral vacuum pump oil and in most cases extend the intervals between oil changes.

Ester Oil

Ester Oil

Ester oil is prized for its primary properties. It works well in high-temperature settings, maintains average elastomer compatibility, and exhibits moderate hydrolysis resistance. These attributes make it a versatile choice, striking a balance between temperature performance, elastomer interaction, and protection against moisture-induced degradation.

Important to know: this oil is good at high temperatures, has an average elastomer compatibility, and average hydrolysis resistance.

FAQ

Oil Functionality

Why does a vacuum pump need oil?

The oil inside the vacuum pump lubricates the pump mechanism and collected the moisture and contaminants from the evacuated systems. In short, it’s what keeps a vacuum pump pumping.

How often should I change the oil in my vacuum pump?

Lubricants have a finite lifespan, and as time passes, their quality gradually deteriorates. Factors such as elevated temperatures, oxidation, or chemical and physical interactions with the process substances can accelerate this aging process. Neglecting timely oil changes can result in the formation of sludges, resins, acids, and crystallization.

Changing the oil is an integral part of routine maintenance. The duration for which the oil remains effective depends on its type. Synthetic oil with specialized additives exhibit greater resilience compared to mineral oils, for instance. Oils with extended lifespans should be replaced after one year, while our "long lifetime" oils can endure for up to two years before requiring replacement.

How does temperature effect the functionality of vacuum pump oil quality?

Your pump oil's lifespan depends on various factors, primarily temperature. Mineral oils can endure up to 80°C (176°F), with a 10°C increase halving their service life. Synthetic oil performs well between 100-160°C (212-320°F), while PFPE oils remain stable up to 250°C (482°F) due to their inert nature. Extremely cold conditions can lead to vapor condensation, potentially causing lubrication loss and pump corrosion.

What do I do with used vacuum pump oil?

Do not dispose of used vacuum pump oil by pouring it down the drain. Instead, gather the old oil in an appropriate container, such as the original one it was supplied in, and follow your local recycling guidelines for proper disposal. For additional details, consult the disposal considerations found in Section 13 of the Safety Data Sheet.

Does vacuum pump oil ever go bad?

The longevity of your oil may decline if it is not stored correctly. Here are guidelines for proper storage:

  • Store within a temperature range of +10 to +30°C (+50 to +86°F).
  • Shield containers from direct sunlight exposure.
  • Ensure that drums are stored horizontally.
  • Opt for indoor storage in enclosed rooms.
  • Keep the storage area clean and dry.

Types of oil

Can I use compressor oil in a vacuum pump?

Compressor oil and vacuum pump oil may not consistently work together. Although compressors and pumps occasionally utilize similar technologies, such as oil-sealed rotary screws or vanes, it is not advisable to interchange or combine these lubricants.

The characteristics of the oil, such as viscosity and resistance to thermal oxidation, are largely influenced by the pump's intended use and factors like temperature. While there are instances where it might function adequately, our recommendation is to use suitable oil.

Can I mix different types of vacuum pump oils together?

Oils can be swapped in certain situations, but doing so can potentially lead to severe damage, which is why we strongly discourage it. In the best-case scenario, your pump's performance might suffer, but in the worst-case scenario, the entire pump could fail. In fact, the primary cause of system problems often stems from oil-related errors.

Mixing two different types of oils can create complications and should be avoided. If you intend to transition to PFPE oil, it's essential to have your pumps serviced at one of our authorized service centers. This involves a complete disassembly and cleaning of the pump, along with the replacement of filters and seals, and regreasing.

How does vacuum pump oil contribute to a lower cost of ownership?

Premium vacuum pump oil leads to decreased power consumption, diminished wear and tear, and reduced maintenance expenses. To put it differently, selecting the correct oil safeguards your pump and prolongs its operational lifespan.Generally, the appropriate oil provides extended service intervals compared to alternative brands, resulting in savings on maintenance expenditures.

Opting for top-tier oil, such as Atlas Copco Oil & Fluids, not only ensures consistent pump performance but also reduces your overall cost of ownership.
