This week, 18th – 24th May, is Mental Health Awareness Week, and the theme for 2020 is #KindnessMatters. Run by the Mental Health Foundation, the campaign was created with the aim to drive change towards a mentally healthy society for all, and support communities, families, and individuals to live mentally healthier lives.
At Atlas Copco mental health and wellbeing are top of our agenda – even more so at the moment. We asked the General Managers of our businesses to reflect on what Kindness means to them:
"Kindness is all about being positive and treating people with respect, fairly and in way that you would expect to be treated yourself. We are all facing many challenges right now but we are in this together. Now more than ever it is important to be generous and kind to your partners, family, friends and colleagues!"
"Kindness to me is care, support, ability to listen and hearing other people, positive attitude towards everyone by default."
“What does kindness mean to me? It is about be a caring person, it is about looking after each other, and looking out for each other. It is about a smile, a hello, letting people know it is ok not to be ok and remembering the little things. But also about giving hope and being optimistic in this difficult time.”
"During this difficult time of uncertainty and social distancing, kindness is more appreciated than ever. Keep an eye on the people around you, be more active when you see people in need, sometimes a smile or a word of encouragement can help a lot and remember, If my one act of kindness can lift you from despair If my one act of kindness can show you many care This one act of kindness will build to many more Then hopefully this one act of kindness can open your closed door."
The coronavirus pandemic and lockdown has been very challenging and people’s mental health may have been affected in various ways. Many people will be feeling lonely, isolated, stressed, and anxious during this difficult period, so it’s important we all look after each other and support our mental wellbeing.
