Meet Thomas - Field Service Engineer Apprentice
We had a quick chat with Thomas Armstrong in time for National Apprenticeship Week, to hear his thoughts on his time as an apprentice in the Atlas Copco Group so far. Read on to find out what he had to say.
What are your future aspirations?
During my apprenticeship, I aim to develop the skills that I currently have to a higher level, and I aim to learn new skills so that I am able to carry out my role in the company as efficiently as possible.
Can you tell us a bit about your role?
In the company, my role will be as a field service engineer. This includes repairing the air compressors or boilers that have been used by different clients. This may also include regularly going off-site to carry out repairs.
How has your apprenticeship experience been so far, and what specific skills have you gained or developed during your time at the company?
I have thoroughly enjoyed my apprenticeship experience so far because it has allowed me to learn new skills that I can use in the future. These skills included various skills in bench fitting, how to safely and effectively construct circuits using wires and different components and how to carry out maintenance on different machines such as a lathe.
How has the company supported your development during your apprenticeship?
My company has greatly supported my development during my apprenticeship as they have provided me with all of the equipment that I would require to make it easier. They have also supported me by calling me into the depot so that they can catch up with me and ensure that any questions that I have can be answered.
Can you share a memorable experience you’ve had while working as an apprentice?
One of the most memorable experiences that I have had so far was the first day of my apprenticeship. I was very nervous when first meeting everyone but they helped me to easily settle into the company and made me feel very welcome.
