Atlas Copco Rental provides feed air to Petrolane resulting in reduction of choke valves testing time from 36 to 1.5 hour!

Utorok, 2016, septembra 13

Antwerp, Belgium, September 1, 2016: When Petrolane needed to perform renovation on a set of subsea choke valves and realized the complete testing time would be 36 hours, they contacted Atlas Copco Rental in order to find a solution allowing them to complete the work faster.

Petrolane, founded in 1991 with offices in Macaé, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is dedicated to the production and commercialization of prospection, production and measurement equipment widely used by engineering companies, constructors, drilling companies and more. Among their products are choke valves and Petrolane had to perform a renovation on a set of subsea valves. The whole process consisted in disassembling the equipment, repairing and replacing parts, reassembling, painting and performing functional tests. For the tests, pressure chokes are required to actuate the valves. Each choke causes a pressure drop in the system and it takes time to return the pressure to the required operation level in order to trigger the next choke. Additionally, for the complete valve opening and closing, 540 stages with and average duration of 4 minutes each are needed, resulting in 36 hours of uninterrupted service to complete the task.

Petrolane decided to look for help in order to reduce the valves functional tests time.

Atlas Copco Rental came up with a solution that comprised one XAMS 400 diesel driven mobile compressor supplying 800 cfm of air at 125 psi together with a 2m³ tank to feed and maintain the customer’s HPU (High Pressure Unit) at 5000 psi. Lucas Lamoia, sales engineer at Atlas Copco Rental Brazil explains: “We managed to keep the required constant pressure level, overcoming the delays and providing an extraordinary reduction in the test duration to only one and a half hour!” Petrolane’s engineer, Fellipe Azevedo, says “Thanks to the collaboration with Atlas Copco Rental we have managed to complete our valves tests in a more than satisfactory time. We will definitely repeat this solution for our future renovation jobs. Teaming up with Atlas Copco Rental went very smooth, they worked together with us from the earliest stage of the project to come up with the best possible solution.”
