Do’s and Don’ts for invertor control air compressors

To ensure the optimum efficient operation of an invertor drive variable speed compressor, the following points should be taken into consideration.

Do keep the compressor room dry and clean

GA variable speed air compressors
The air compressor should be installed in a dry and clean location free from dust to protect the sensitive electronic components in the drive cubicle. The cooling air should be clean and from the coolest area. However, the cooling air should never be ‘overcooled’ by using an air conditioning unit as it will cause harmful condensation on the electronic components in the drive cubicle.

Don’t install the air compressors nearby harmful gasses

Installing the compressor near to any area where harmful process gasses or diesel generator exhaust gasses can be drawn in with the cooling air flow as they can attack the circuit boards and other electrical components in the invertor cubicle.

Do leave sufficient space for service

Always ensure there is enough space around the compressor for ease of access to the servicing points and the drive cubicle. There should be adequate lighting around the compressor. The service schedule should be carried out on time and all maintenance tasks should be carried out when due.

Don’t open the cubicle door while operation

During operation, the cubicle door should remain closed to prevent unfiltered air to enter the invertor cubicle. Ensure the cubicle filters to be replaced at regular intervals, and even more frequently under dusty conditions. It the working environment is heavily dusty, use the heavy-duty filter option.

Do regular cleaning

Clean the electrical components and heat sinks regularly gently by using a vacuum cleaner with a non-metallic suction head. This will avoid any local build up of heat on components due to the surfaces being insulated by a layer of dust.

Do maintain the stable power

There should always be a stable mains power to the invertor to maintain the capability of the drive to provide the required power for the air consumption. Any problem with the mains supply from voltage dips or harmonic distortion from other installed equipment will lead to nuisance trips on the invertor drive.

Follow the guidelines to ensure your invertor controlled air compressor provides high efficiency, reliable operation and peace of mind.
