Dry Vacuum Pump working principle
Based on Dry vacuum pump working principle, Atlas Copco is having various designs like Screw, Claw, Scroll technology of dry vacuum pump. Such pumps are called dry or Oil-free as they do not contain any sealing or lubricating fluids exposed directly to the vacuum in the pumping chamber typically they are capable of producing pressure in region of 50 mbara to 10-2 mbara. For reasons of reliability, reduced maintenance and operating cost many industries such as semiconductor, metallurgical, freeze drying are using dry pumps. These oil-free dry vacuum pumps are suitable for the harsh applications where the process carry needs to be handled by pumps effectively.
- Dry scroll pump: In Scroll type Dry vacuum pump working principle, the sides of the scrolls are separated by just enough space to prevent them from touching. No sealant or lubricant is required in the swept volume of the pump. One scroll is fixed, while the centre of the other scroll, orbits about the centre of the fixed scroll. As the orbiting scroll moves, semi-circular shaped gas pockets are formed. The trapped gases are thereby continuously compressed by the orbiting action until the gas load is finally exhausted through the discharge port at the centre of the pump. The DSS series of Atlas Copco dry scroll pump’s ultimate vacuum is <1.3 mbara and the potential applications, in rough vacuum band are like pick & place, Holding, etc.
- Dry rotary claw vacuum pump: Atlas Copco DZS claw series of Dry Vacuum pump working principle having two stainless steel, non-contacting claw rotors are cylindrical for most of the circumference of the rotor but have a deep depression at two opposite tips of the claw
- In this design, as the two claw rotates, gas is drawn in via an inlet slot, continued rotation closes the inlet while the claws compress the trapped volume of gas until the second rotor exposes the outlet. . Read more about our complete Single and Multi-claw dry screw vacuum pumps here.

Dry Screw vacuum pump: Atlas Copco has Dry Screw vacuum pump with different MOC of Screw elements such as CS and Aluminum. The commonly known “Tapered variable pitch” rotors are used to achieve the gas compression and produces vacuum level down to 0.01 mbar.
