Atlas Copco Rental assists with construction of a shipyard in Russia

Atlas Copco Rental in Russia supplied eight XRVS high-pressure diesel compressors to help with the installation of what will become a part of a unique complex with dry docks, in the north of Russia.

For a duration of 7 months, Atlas Copco Rental equipment supplied the necessary air to power the pneumatic drilling operations for the construction of a dry dock in Northern Russia, near the Barentsevo Sea. Our client Spetsfundament is specialized in building, engineering, and constructing large projects, including docks and other sea facilities. They have their own substantial fleet of compressors and other equipment at their disposal. However, during peak season, or when working on multiple projects simultaneously, they rely on Atlas Copco Rental to temporarily increase productivity and ensure efficiency. Development of the shipyard started in 2018. The yard will have two dry docks where special platforms for LNG plants will be constructed. When complete, it will be the first complex of its kind in Russia. Spetsfundament collaborated with Atlas Copco Rental in the first phase of the project: laying the foundation of the dry docks.

Because of the quality of the soil, and its proximity to the ocean, the foundation needed to reach a certain depth. With those conditions in mind, the working parameters were set to 24 – 25 bar and 100m³/min airflow.

To generate the necessary pressure for the pneumatic drills, the Atlas Copco Rental experts selected eight DrillAir ™ XRVS high-pressure diesel-powered compressors and provided additional services like maintenance.
