Most efficient applications for Energy Storage Systems

Looking at two application examples helps to illustrate the full potential of battery energy storage systems such as ZenergiZe.

Metropolitan construction

In a busy metropolitan construction site, the peaks in demand can be expected to occur during the daytime, when most workers are on the site, operating various tools that consume power. As the site’s power demand is high, the application uses a ZenergiZe unit in hybrid mode, one of the operating modes of energy storage systems, together with a generator, to optimize availability. The battery storage system powers the load during the night. As the workers arrive in the morning and the power demand increases, the generator starts working, and the batteries get recharged. In the middle of the day power demand peaks, and the fully charged batteries are used to complement the power supplies by the generator, after which they are again recharged. In the evening, when the site grows quiet and demand drops, the generator switches off and the battery storage system continues to provide power for the essential onsite loads, such as emergency lighting. As the battery system operates silently, which is one of the most acclaimed advantages of energy storage systems, noise pollution from the site is minimized.

Telecom

When combined with a renewable energy source, such as solar panels, the ZenergiZe units can become 100 percent sustainable, eliminating all emissions.

Access to power is often a challenge for telecom operators with towers in rural areas where connecting to the grid is impossible. As towers often use generators that are larger than their real power needs, low loads can have a very negative effects on the engine, resulting in oil leakages or black fumes. To avoid this, the most sustainable alternative is using the combination of solar panels and a battery energy storage.

How does a battery energy storage system work? During the day, the power demand can be covered with the solar panels, which will also recharge the batteries in the energy storage system. During the night, or when the sun cannot provide enough energy, the energy storage system will take the lead. This optimizes the use of the generator, saving it for use when it is really needed, and eliminates all CO2 emissions for the duration of use.
