A week in the life of .... Lindsay

This week we celebrate International Womens Day by taking a look at a week in the life of some of our female employees here at Atlas Copco.

Lindsay Vickors – Service Contracts Coordinator

My role sits within the Atlas Copco Tools Industrial Technique Service Division. I joined the business last October and the role involves supporting the service contracts in place, and supporting new contract set up. I am currently focused on our existing Tool Management Centres (TMCs) where we have permanently based onsite engineers supporting our customer requirements. My role is varied, and each day is different.

Monday

An early start today to catch the 7.05am train to Newcastle for a Monthly KPI review meeting with a customer. The train provides the opportunity to catch up on any emails, review the KPI figures and prepare any last-minute notes to close off any outstanding tasks from the last meeting.

Arriving on site I meet with the Team Leader and the Customer to go through the previous month’s performance. This is an opportunity for us to share the work completed in the TMC and highlight repairs completed, ‘Spares’ spend and highlight improvement potential for the customer.

After the meeting it is back into the TMC to sit with the team leader and this provides the opportunity to look at processes and to understand ways in which we can continually improve our service offering.

Back on the train provides another opportunity to catch up with any emails and respond to any messages and voicemails.

Tuesday

Onsite customer visit in Dagenham. Meeting with the customer stakeholder and Atlas sales team to go over the new 2020 agreement. The contract is now in place and the meeting gives us the opportunity to summaries what is covered within the contract scope due to some significant changes. This is a great opportunity for us to ensure everyone is clear with the tasks to be completed by our onsite engineer and what services would be charged additionally to the.
Following the meeting, into the TMC to go through the same information with the onsite engineer and to review all work currently in the TMC.

Returning in the afternoon to the office, allows me to complete the final preparation of service presentation ahead of a customer meeting on Thursday.

Wednesday

Customer site visit in Wolverhampton off the back of a request for Atlas Copco attendance, following an issue on customer production line seen earlier in the week. This meeting allows us to talk to key stake holders to understand the issues they have faced on-line causing multiple losses and how the work of our engineers enabled the line to get back up and running. This is an opportunity to show the customer the value of the service we provide, by having onsite engineers available to them at all time during production.

The afternoon sees another TMC visit to meet with onsite engineer and Atlas sales team to discuss upcoming contract renewal requirements. Great chance to see the engineers working in the workshop and to see first-hand how the customer demands the services of our engineers. In addition, when on site I take the opportunity to have 1-2-1 time with any staff member.

A hotel stay this evening as back on site tomorrow for a customer meeting. An evening away gives me the opportunity to catch up on some general admin and finalise everything for the meeting tomorrow.

Thursday

Pre-meeting catch up with all Atlas Staff involved in the onsite Customer meeting today to summarise presentation and confirm all points covered in a planning meeting the previous week. This meeting allows us the time to ensure everyone on the team is clear of the message we are presenting to the customer and that it is aligned to their needs.

Customer meeting with multiple stake holders. Presentation of the 2020 proposal opportunity, and chance for the customer to expand on their requirements ahead of a quotation submission. The meeting allows us to have an in-depth conversation with the customer to understand the targets they are trying to achieve, changes to their operations and expectations for the new contract.
Following the meeting the Atlas team get together to summaries the meeting and agree next steps – actions are assigned to relevant personnel.

Finally, for today, is a 1-2-1 with my manager. A great opportunity to be able to discuss my progression so far and agree tasks to focus on as we look to continually improve service processes.


Friday

Today is an office day and a great chance to start to get into the detail with tasks I set out to achieve.
The days consists of communication with members of my team based on site, responding to emails and ‘Team’ chats where necessary.

I look ahead to next week and understand the meetings and visits to attend and the tasks to complete. I take this time to prepare anything that is needed and close off outstanding tasks from the week.
